  • Hi Matt here.

  • If you want to continue finding tools to a successful and happy life, I recommend listening to the happiness lab hosted by Yale professor Doctor Lori Santos.

  • Doctor Santos has studied the science of happiness and has found that many of us do the exact opposite of what will make our lives better.

  • Based on the psychology course she teaches at Yale, she will take you through the latest scientific research and share some surprising stories that will change the way you think about happiness.

  • This season, shes tackling topics that affect her own life like stress, perfectionism, and boredom.

  • If you struggle with any of those, or if it sounds like you could learn more about increasing happiness in your life, then listen to the happiness lab right here in your podcast player.

  • Whenever you listen to the radio, watch tv, or browse the Internet, you are bombarded with crises of all types.

  • While these crises, political, health, social, play out on a global stage, many of us struggle with crises situations of our own.

  • Today, I look forward to our discussion of crisis communication.

  • I'm Matt Abrahams and I teach strategic communication at Stanford Graduate School of Business.

  • Welcome to think fast, talk Smart, the podcast.

  • I am so excited to be joined by David Demarest, who is a lecturer of management at the GSB.

  • Prior to the GSB, David served as White House communications director for President George HW Bush and was a member of the White House senior staff.

  • Next, David served as executive vice president and director of corporate communications at bank of America and then as executive vice president for corporate relations and brand management at Visa International.

  • Later, he became Stanford's vice president for public affairs and oversaw communications and government relations and events.

  • Beyond teaching at the GSB, David is finishing his book about what life is like working in the White House.

  • Welcome, David.

  • Hey, thanks, Matt.

  • It's great to be with you.

  • This is going to be fun.
