  • Hi Matt here.

  • If you want to continue finding tools to a successful and happy life, I recommend listening to the happiness lab hosted by Yale professor Doctor Lori Santos.

  • Doctor Santos has studied the science of happiness and has found that many of us do the exact opposite of what will make our lives better.

  • Based on the psychology course she teaches at Yale, she will take you through the latest scientific research and share some surprising stories that will change the way you think about happiness.

  • This season, she's tackling topics that affect her own life, like stress, perfectionism, and boredom.

  • If you struggle with any of those, or if it sounds like you could learn more about increasing happiness in your life, then listen to the happiness lab right here in your podcast player.

  • So much of our communication is about motivation, motivating others and motivating ourselves.

  • I'm Matt Abrahams and I teach strategic communication at Stanford Graduate School of Business.

  • Welcome to think fast, talk smart, the podcast I am really excited to speak with Suu Kyi Huang, an associate professor of marketing at Stanford GSB.

  • Suchi's research focuses on motivation, science, and shared goal pursuit.

  • She studies things such as competition, healthy eating, and dynamic feedback hi Suchi, welcome to the podcast.

  • I am super excited to have you here.

  • Thank you, Matt.

  • It's so good to be here.

  • Excellent.

  • Let's go ahead and get started.

  • In preparing to speak with you, I reviewed a lot of your work and I'm struck by the variety of your research, from advertising to robots and goals and competition.

  • I'm curious what motivates the research you do?

  • Yeah, that is a great question to start because definitely I have pretty broad interest.

  • I actually started getting intrigued by the topic related to motivation because I was working at an advertising agency, JWT, back in Taiwan.
