Today's story is by Ryu Nosuke Akutagawa.
He is a japanese author.
Sometimes he is called the father of the japanese short story.
He wrote almost always short stories.
I don't think he wrote any novels, actually.
Sadly, he ended his life at 35.
So he was very young when he died.
He killed himself, or as we say, he committed suicide.
As he grew up, his mother had very serious mental illness and mental problems, and Ryu Nosuke always worried that he would get these problems from his mother.
And in the end, it looks like he did.
He lived from 1892 to 1927.
He was one of the most important japanese writers in the history of the language.
Japanese is one of the languages I speak, and recently I have been reading a lot of japanese literature.
